MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Tour Talk / Re: Mellencamp got booed at NL concert last night...

I like that reply from Tony about people spending more time with their devices than watching the show. I, too, enjoy a "souvenier" photo of the "concert I was at"....but it amazes me how much time others spend snapping pictures and filming videos. It's very easy to do now. But in my mind they are missing the whole point of being at a concert. They are not experiencing the full excitement of the show. So yeah - I guess when the majority start mis-behaving, it's time to put your foot down and so no-more. I think John wants his audience to watch and listen. I witnessed his repremand at a concert last year when he told some chatters in the front row to take it out into the hallway if they wanted to have a conversation. Seriously, why are you spending the money on attending a concert if you're going to stand around and chat and snap pictures through the whole thing? And, hey - my husband is a "picture snapping" and I will be happy that someone else is going to tell him to put his phone away!!!!!!!!!! There was always a bit of a thrill in trying to sneek a picture....
Just sayin--

I saw/heard John last year at Farm Aid and attended a concert once more after that. His voice was bad both times. Occasionally it would come back to the sound we're used to, but not often. I'm not sure if he's trying some new style or if his voice is starting to go. The spitting into the bandana doesn't sound like a good thing. I'm sure the smoking over the years hasn't helped...as people have said. I'm not at all fond of this "new voice". I am going to listen to the download from Farm Aid and see how that sounds. But I too, am worried....not necessarily that he's sick but that we're losing him....

MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Tour Talk / Grand Rapids Performance

What an awesome crowd and fantastic performance. The place was packed and there was a huge applause after the movie finished. ( I think due in part to the anticipation of seeing the real thing.) These people LOVED the show. Cheering, dancing...everything. And I think the band and John were loving us. John seemed very at ease and did alot of dancing. Very emotional performances of "Circling Round the Moon," "Death Letter," and "Easter Eve". After the "Cherry Bomb" finale the band bowed and left the stage while John just stood there and everyone screamed and cheered and he took it all in for a good minute.
He is LOOKIN GOOD for 60 and doesn't seem to be losing any of the desire to put on a great show. It's actually pretty amazing and a relief for me because I did not get that feeling from Farm Aid this year....maybe it was just me, but he seemed distracted. Tuesday night in GR it was the John I know........great night!!!!

So I'm checking out some other concert photos here and I'm deciding now that it's the beard....between the beard AND the hair it's just too much. Thinking now he can keep his hair if he shaves the beard....
...don't mind me...slow day at work today....

Not a very flattering picture of either of them. I'd like to see a new-do for John also...and I'd like to see the beard gone (not pictured)....makes him look too old. And I've told him this before but he never listens!! "-somedays I still don't know what to do-" Mary in Michigan

Just wanted to thank Jane for the tips on "What to do in Kansas City". We took in the World War I Museum, Union Station, City Market and drove around to the various sporting venues...football, baseball.
Good times! Cool city!!
Thanks, Jane!

Neil was one that did say quite a bit...but not as much as last year. I'm not saying it's good or bad...just saying it was different. Almost like people had maybe complained that there was too much talking so artists were trying to tone it down.

MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Tour Talk / Farm Aid
|

Not sure where the link is for discussing Farm Aid...so I'll start here!
Performances were good. Lukas Nelson and John & Band were the highlights as far as I was concerned. They rocked the place....other performances were good but kind of laid back. Performers didn't do a whole lot of talking about the farm situation like they did last year. Pretty much played and got out of there. Sets seemed smaller. Also thought last year's decor was better. They went kind of high tech this year.
John seemed so serious....very intense...said nothing except a thanks for coming when he was done. Oh - he did introduce Neil or Willie....I forget. And either his voice is going or he's trying some new style.....singing had many rough parts.
Venue was nice but seats were really crammed in!! The displays, information, food, etc. was excellent. Lots to see and learn. All in all I wasn't as impressed this year as last with the performances.
Also a suggestion....put the stage up higher. We were row 14 center and could not see Dave Matthews at all cuz everyone stood up and he was sitting down.
But it was a beautiful day in a beautiful city with good entertainment.
Anyone else....?
