MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / All About John / John's New Tattoo
|

If you go to OMG website and search John you'll pull up pictures of Meg and him at an art museum.....check out the new tattoo......
I wonder what that's all about...I swear he did not have that when I saw him in Nov.
This is depressing....but again...these people are famous...you can't expect their lives to be normal.
I wonder what Elaine is up to....

RE: The Box Set OMG!!! So I got this for Christmas. I was not excited about this project because I assumed it was just going to be a rehash of everything I already have, but I asked Santa for it just because I figured I needed it for my collection. Well - I haven't gotten past CD 3. I started with that one because it had all my favorites. If you have not heard "World Don't Bother Me" then I believe you are missing a CLASSIC Mellencamp performance. It's my favorite sound from him! And "Cherry Bomb" sung with auto harp from the kitchen table sounds like he's sitting in my kitchen...almost brings tears to my eyes. "Someday the Rains Will Fall" is another great selection. This is truly a fantastic collection....I take back everything I may have said....and I haven't heard 3/4 of it yet!! I see now why it took so long. He was true to his word with this one in that he didn't want to make it just a collection of greatest hits. "-somedays I still don't know what to do-"

We are never going to figure this guy out....he's basically said that all along....HE can't even figure himself out. Lucky for us that inner dilemma creates some fantastic music. Unlucky for family members.
While I was very sad when I first heard the news I'm starting to accept that this is just the way it is with artists. Their minds are a whole different ball of wax.

I thought he was going to tell him off and walk out!!! I'm surprised he hung around...I would have been - "do you want to talk about the new album or what? " It's not like he's the only celebrity who smokes!!!!

MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / All About John / Re: Where Was JM When John Lennon Was Killed?

I remember where I was....my clock alarm woke me up with the news. All I could think about was my best friend from school who had moved away. John Lennon was to her as John Mellencamp is to me....only more so.....she followed the Beatles and particularly Lennon from day 1. I felt SO bad for her, and still do. She actually secluded herself for many days after.

I see there is a blurb on the home page now about RS conversation with John backstage at Letterman. There's another subject Dave could have brought up....Willie's run in with the police. For god's sake he had a joke about it in his opening monolog!! I thought for sure he would discuss that with John..... Even Dave joked....."they can't find Bin laden, but they've got Willie!!!"
That would have made for a much more interesting interview.

The best part of the interview...pointing out Hud on the cover and then informing us that the one girl was Spec's old girl friend. Yes, it was nice to see John smile and joke around. Did anyone catch what he said to Dave after the song performance? I re-wound and turned the sound way up several times to try and figure it out. He asked Dave, "Did it bring a tear to your eye?"

I'm right there with you on the topic of conversation....he smokes, the world knows it, evryone knows it's not good for anyone.....he's never going to change and the way John is the MORE you talk about it the MORE he's going to do it. If Dave wanted to pull out one topic he could have brought up the baptism. John now places the Jesus statue at every performance....even last night. THAT would have been interesting. I really, really think the whole world is tired of the cigarette conversation.
They also could have talked about John's new look. Baby!! You're NOT THAT OLD!!! You don't really need to look it!! Anyway.....it's growing on me.

Let's talk about these songs....Thinking About You; This song really hit home because I was just thinking the other day about my old college boyfriend (30 years ago) and wondering what happened to him. "Don't mean no trouble, don't want to bother you none, ain't lookin' for nothin', just wondering about you some." Coming Down the Road; This is one of the songs that grabbed my attention immediately because of the beat and the deep sound. Best thought.."Caught a glimpse of myself as others see me and it wasn't the fella that I thought I'd be." Clumsy Old World; What a great description of married life!! "She remembers things that I'm tryin' to forget." Ha! Too funny!!

At least those places have a poster!! I went to Walmart and there was no promotion at all. Was not located in the new release section and there was no advertisement.
I have to disagree about playing it loud.....it sounds totally awesome loud!!!!

First listen....I thought...wow he's really taken a different direction here. Second listen I was getting it more. I actually really like it. It's definately country/folk and I think the words are the best ever!! Just like prior posts - yup, I'm cryin'! These are hearfelt words, story-telling time....he's growing up/old with me and remembering. Just like it's always been. Also have to agree with liking the stripped down sound...very cool. I'm SO glad John continues to experiment. Just think if he had never tried the accordian/violin sound...we wouldn't have Lonesome Jubilee!! This will take awhile for some, but it will be worth it.

MELLENCAMP.COM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Ticket & Tour Questions / Re: No Better Than This - Fall Tour Ticket Question

For the first time in my Mellenhead career I was afraid I was going to be unable to get in on the pre-sale yesterday....I had to be in a class. Luckily, we got a break right around sale time...I ran outside with my iPhone....trying to punch the little keys and see the screen...then a huge black cloud rolled in and it started to pour!!! Tried each break to access something, with no luck. So, when I got home later in the evening I sat down at my laptop and holy *!#* if I didn't buy myself some third row seats!!!! This was a crazy time....and I've heard the stories about tickets being "forzen" etc., but never believed it until now. Luck was with me this time around I guess. Have to agree with other posts....wouldn't spend this much on ANYONE else, glad he's touring, etc. etc. And have also decided that I'm not crazy....I'm an addict!!
Thanks Tony and anyone else involved in this whirlwind!!!!! "Ain't life grand!"
