Yea I too love the fact he plays a complete mixture of all his songs. I like the way he changes stuff up too loved the redition of Jack and Diane last night. My favourite still has to be Pink Houses though. Im sad he didnt do Jackie Brown last night that's another one of my fav's at the moment! Yes John and the band definately deserve a well earned rest now! and hopefully he'll be up to coming up here to Canada to see us again in a the next couple of years??

MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Tour Talk / GM centre show, Oshawa

Just got back from seeing John at the GM centre. John as usual put on another fantastic show, had us all up dancing and singing from the get go. I was I have to say extremely shocked at the lack of respect from many of the people who were at tonights show. I wont call them fans because they obviously were not! People interrupting John while he was talking to the audience, shouting and jeering during songs! Constantly getting up down! I just dont get people who willingly pay money to go and see a Hall of Fame artist then didnt bother to sit and watch him! they would rather drink beer and visit the bathroom the whole way through the show! One guy was so drunk he even fell forward almost landing in top of my friend! and then he and his friends decided they would rather chat and drink beer than sit and enjoy the show! John was perfect he got the hint that people didnt want to hear him so he didnt chat for the rest of the show spoiling it for us true fans but whats a guy to do he obviously didnt fancy shouting above the hecklers but he did tell them they would all go to hell!!! and good on him too. Highlight of my evening I finally got to see Johns Airstream in the Parking lot!!!!!

I've seen John a bunch of times and never noticed any issue with picture taking. I have taken a few myself and also recorded a few songs but they never come out well! I do agree it is a nuisance and all the flashing probably is distracting for John. I do remember in the last couple of shows I saw last year John asking everyone to get out their cellphones and then John taking a cellphone from someone in the front row and chatting to someone on the end of the persons phone so for him to make such an abrupt "U" turn does seem strange. I went to a Kid Rock show 2 years ago in Toronto when a couple behind me got dragged out for taking pictures with a camera while all around me people were continuing to take pictures with cellphones I dont see the point in that at all myself surely a picture is a picture cellphone or camera? As for the encoure I to agree that John has never done much of an encoure and personally I dont see the point in them if it was a good show thats good enough for me. Just listen to the set list and if he's done most of the major hits then there wont be an encoure if a few big numbers are missing then John may come back and do those songs as an encoure!

If you don't like the way John sings then why are you still going to see him? I saw him last year at Massey Hall Toronto and he was fantastic as usual. Yes he sings his older stuff a little differently now but wouldn't you get a little bored of singing the same songs the same way for all these years? I think it's nice that he changes it up a little. He usally. Varies the tempo throught the show doing some tracks with the band some just with his guitar and usually a blast of the rock stuff towards then. Don't forget John is older now to so he probably doesn't have the stamina to do an entire rock set. I just got my tickets for Oshawa in July and it will be the 6 th time I have seen John and I like that it is always just a little bit different!!

You should come up to Canada to see John next time, We respect musicians when they are on stage! We get all our drinks before hand then sit and listen or stand and dance and we like to sing along too but we do not interfere with guy on stage! Unless he requests it which John always does at some point in his show anyhow.

I agree that John is evolving and I love every album currently have Big Daddy in the car and was really enjoying revisiting that and blasting it loud too! When we went to see John at Massey Hall in Toronto we invited 2 friends that knew of John but hadnt heard him in a while and they were both pleasntly surprised had a great time and are now converts! Im in the process of burning all my cd's for them now. I think it's good that as a muscians career grows the music should change and grow too because who wants to have 20 CD's that all sound the same? Johns music has a sound unique to him, and you can listen to his first cd and his last cd and know it is still him.

I totally get what you are saying, it is really really annoying when you paid money for a ticket when you think the artist is the greatest thing since sliced bread and other people would rather talk, shout out , drink and generally act as if they were in a bar with the music as in the background I mean really whats the point of paying to see someone perform if you dont want to listen! Same goes for when Im at the movies and a load of young oiks (as I call them) keep running in and out and are there more for a social event than to sit and watch the movie!

Great article and shows the direction that JM's career was heading way back then and the way he is finally getting to do shows the way he wants to, that is to play the songs he loves the way he wants to and not to have to do an encore if he doesnt want to at least he tells his audience thats the end Im not coming back and has the house lights put up so we know he's not coming back. By the way he's still fighting authority!

Great article which totally explains JM. I knew the paparazzi would be pissing him off by now!and yes he could have made more money doing staduim tours but his true fans are getting a real treat on this tour and thats why he's doing it for his true fans the ones who have brought every album and followed his whole career not just the ones who loved his hits in the 80's/90's and then forgot about him then suddenly realised that he was still around! John has been experimenting with his music for a while now and playing different versions of our old favourites.
