MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Video & Audio / Great JM Live Shows on Sugarmegs & Archive.org
|
on: August 23, 2010, 11:38:55 pm

There are some great JM shows streaming here: http://tela.sugarmegs.org/alpha/j.htmlThese can also be saved (but they come out as one track and would therefore need to split into tracks using a program such as Nero). Be sure to look for shows under both "John Cougar" and "John Mellencamp", however. There's a really clean tape of the live recordings mixed by Don Gehman on JM's birthday in '87, for example, that sounds waaaaay better than the "Little Bastard's Birthday Party" boot I've had for years; the interview segments are complete, also. Great link thank you very much!!

No Better Than This was #1 on Amazon.com for almost 4 days, now it has gone up to $12.00 and immediately fell to #4, while the other new releases are still at $9.99. Who makes these decisions, it would have been nice to see it stay at 9.99 so we could still see it in the number 1 spot

Can you snap a picture of whatever the promo pic was? Or can you describe it more? It was something physically in the best buy store?
At the Best Buy I went to today the promo poster was the same picture that's in the upper left hand corner of this website, or at least it was from that same photo shoot -- you know the one that was from Interview magazine right after "Freedom's Road" came out. It's nothing new, it's been seen before. Lets see some pictures of these displays snapped and posted here! I was in my local Best buy last night & same poster/Photo on the End-cap of the cd section , it's about 4 feet high & a few feet wide & then there is a new cd release rack next to it above the poster it has the quote "Cd's under $10" [/quote] http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs251.snc4/39882_830824578950_22901814_46612194_2350356_n.jpgHere is a picture of a poster from Borders Tony

That said, I absolutly ADORE "Right Behind Me", one of my favorite JM songs of all time. I wish I was listening to a whole CD of that. I am a little disappointed that it was the only song from the Robert Johnson location that made the CD, I wish there were more with that sound. I can just picture JM and the band, the way they play Don't Need This Body, with that plunking guitar and Mirian's fiddle, and everyone leaning in, at once, to say my favorite line in the whole CD................."NO!". Every time I hear that part, I laugh out loud!
Someday The Rains May Fall from the NCIS 2 soundtrack is also from the San Antonio sessions. Check out itunes you can by someday the rains will fall there

Went to Walmart today even though I cant stand that place and they didnt even have it on the new release section, kind of crappy. They did have it though 9.99.
Of the places Ive been seems like Best Buy (9.99) and Borders (13.99) are promoting it the best.
Target has the best price. 7.99
Barnes n Noble has the worst price. 16.99 (on sale too, ouch)
and Wal-Mart doesnt have it on the new release section, yet another reason I hate Walmart.
Next I may check out Costco tomorrow, we'll see.

I think I got my answer now to that after seeing the Travis Smiley performance of "West End" I immediately made it an mp3 and enhanced the sound a little bit, just awesome. I like the song on the album but when you the band together like on the show theres just something magically about it. Cant wait to hear it live now!!

Went to three places today; barnes and noble, borders, and bestbuy. Barnes & Noble it was 16.99 on the new release rack, best buy it was 9.99 also on new release rack, borders it was 13.99 on new release rack with a 16 by 20 poster!!!! really cool. Oh AND at barnes and noble the cd was playing in the store, Im pretty sure they were playing the whole album considering when i got there each day of sorrow was playing and then easter eve came on. One quick comment though, Im a little afraid that his choice of album cover may hurt sales, it is really hard to find when looking in the stores, just does not stand out at all. The poster at borders certainly helps though.

This is truly the best way to get people to buy albums these days. With all this music available to us at a click of a button many people will give anything a chance, I know I do every Tuesday on itunes. Every review helps, be honest one persons negative opinion might be a reason someone else wants to give it a chance and vice versa.
Spread Mellencamps Music!! Thanks

Hey I am new to the board, I would check the cherrybomb posts occasionally. Think the new site is user friendly and visually appealing. I am one of the young mellencamp fans at 24, I don't know if anyone on this board is around that age. Ive only been to one mellencamp concert, the other two I had tickets for were cancelled, :-( I live in Tucson and was born and lived most my life near chicago, and hope to catch his concert in late November (hope he doesnt cancel, lol) I like all of his music, especially alot of the songs that are not as popular, think "beige to beige", "it all comes true", "ghost towns along the highway", "this may not be the end of the world", "forgiveness" etc... Think is new album is great, breathe of fresh air without being a downer like LDL&F.
