So true!  I had the pleasure of meeting Cindy, Rhonda and Paula at the Housing Works benefit.
Probably one of the best shows I have attended, so intimate.  It was great to meet these girls on the trip to the "Big Apple".   Good caring people.

The concert was fantastic! I loved being in a stadium setting again to see JM, took me back to the days of yore - I attended the Little 500 show in Bloomington at IU in '86. I went with a few friends and we were listening to JM on the drive down. I commented I would love to hear "Key West Intermezzo" and it was the opinion that John just might do that song, specifically with the line "He tells me a story about some girl he knows in Kentucky." Sure enough, JM included it in the setlist. My mouth literally dropped open when I heard the first chords. The crowd cheered with the added line "He just made that story up there ain't no girl like that."

John Mellencamp took a good-natured poke at the Red Hot Chili Peppers while giving his introduction to inductee Donovan.

Reading from the liner notes on the back of the first record he bought at age 14, Mellancamp invoked the word "ungimmicked," used in those notes to describe the Scottish singer-songwriter.

Mellencamp paused and said, "You know what a gimmick is, right? Like when you wear your hair all puffed up, cuss a lot onstage and maybe come out wearing socks," referencing the Chili Peppers' famed stunt years ago when the group would show up for a performance with only socks covering their private parts. "I'm just kidding!" Mellencamp added.

Donovan then recited a poem he said the honor inspired, calling his induction "a singular honor ... the brightest searchlight on my music the world can shine."

Mellencamp, who brought Donovan on tour with him in 2005, joined him for "Season of the Witch," the  final number of his three-song set that also included signature hits "Catch the Wind" and "Sunshine Superman."

I started traveling to see JM in 2003, starting with his GMA appearance when he was promoting TNM. I've been a fan since 1980. 

Very cool. Your a long time fan like me. I first saw John on American Bandstand, he performed "Small Paradise" not sure the year 1979 or 1980. A bunch of friends and I went to this bar in Central NY to see him perform then. I was 15 and we got in, don't ask me how it was long ago. Anyway he never showed, I was soooo bummed. I have seen him in concert in NJ, CT and NY and at Farm aid in MA. The closest I ever got to him was in NY and he smiled at me from the stage. I hope to meet him one day, but my luck I would probably faint and never get to. LOL

I hope one day you get the chance to meet him!
