16  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Tour Talk / Toledo Show Was THE BEST!!! on: October 23, 2016, 01:10:49 pm
John Mellencamp
October 21st, 2016
Stranahan Theater
Toledo, OH

I've seen Mellencamp live twice already on the Plain Spoken tour, but this show tops it all!! I was certain that he was going to play the same setlist, but when he spontaneously mixed "Pop Singer" into the bag, I thought it was a dream! I had no clue he would perform that song on the 3rd leg of his tour. What a pleasant surprise for fans like me who want to see him at every opportunity we can get!
Turns out that John had a cold, and he informed us that his team was considering cancelling the show. The crowd was so extremely relieved when he told us he'd stay and continue the show for us. He is really dedicated to his fans and it shows! It feels like an honor to have John Mellencamp perform right in front of you. He plays music with so much class.

The audience reaction was rather silly that night. John was about to tell a story about how his grandmother lived to be 100, the story that would lead into an extremely heartfelt song called, "Longest Days". But it was slightly delayed due to the fans showering John with extreme affection! First it began with a guy behind me who screamed, and then some ladies followed along. The whole venue exploded with cheers and praise. John stepped aside and bowed, waiting for the audience to quiet up. Only it didn't happen. Right when he was about to speak, fans continued up again, screaming things like, "I love you, John!" and various song titles that fans hoped he would play. John waited patiently, until he realized that the audience would not hush into a low down. So he joking asked if we would "shut the fuck up"! Which only made it worse for him- the audience roared this time with an intensity that felt like a roller coaster. You could feel the screams in your heart; this is how much the audience loved John Mellencamp. I never experienced anything like that before at any of the shows I went to. It was a magical thing.
Eventually, after several minutes of hoots and hollering and flocks of girls screaming "I love you!" (I was one of those girls) he began to get a little annoyed so the audience stopped. Then he continued the rest of the night on a happier note. He was sick but it certainly did not seem like it! During the second half of the show, John was all smiles. He moved around on stage, danced, and brought so much joy to the audience to help them keep engaged! As a matter of fact, during "Authority Song", you could actually feel the floor shaking. It felt exactly like we were rocking on the waves beneath a boat! It was intense.

Something really cool happened to me during the last few songs of the night. John walked over to the left side of the stage, where I just happened to be right in the front. I was holding a rose in my hand, dancing, singing all the words and just simply soaking up all the energy of the night when John did something I will never forget! He blew me a kiss! About 3 or 4 ladies around me turned to face me and their eyes grew really big. Five seconds later, we all screamed!!
"John Mellencamp blew you a kiss!" They screamed in a frenzy.
"I know... I know!" I said, closing my eyes and holding the rose near me. I couldn't even fathom what just happened to me.
And then it gets better, becuase I had planned to give the rose to John during "Cherry Bomb", his last song. When he approached me again, I held out the rose and closed my eyes tightly.
"Please take it... please please pleaaaase..." I begged.
I could feel him take the rose out of my hand. I looked up, and sure enough, he was holding the rose and smiling down at me. I swore I was about to be swept beneath my feet and faint, but I managed to hold on and watch as John took the rose and placed it in Mike's mouth! Then he took it out and put in in Mike's suit. They smiled real goofy at each other, and then continued the song in the greatest, happiest mood of the night. I don't think I stopped smiling once a that show- their energy is infectious!
The rose stayed in Mike's suit until they ended "Cherry Bomb", then Mike threw it beside the drums and walked off stage. Who knows what they did with it after that. But that rose has one hell of a story behind it- just as I do now, too!

So if you haven't seen John live yet, you are missing out on a legendary, lifetime experience just like this! He is classy, talented, and still goes at his music with a certain charm. He may not be spending anymore "wild nights" like he used to, but it doesn't make him any less of an extraordinary performer. Both he and Carlene Carter are spectacular people with an amazing ability to perform and please an audience.
I happened to meet Carlene before John's act, actually. I gave her a hug and asked her,
"What's it like to work with John Mellencamp?" And she said,
"He's a very hard-working man, and likes to get things done. But I do to, so we really get along."
I smiled when she told me that, because it was just so cool and a real honor to speak to Carlene and ask her what she thought of the very man that I look up to. I got a hug and a picture with her, as well as her autograph. I couldn't express how lucky I felt that night. And it wasn't just me. Both John Mellencamp and Carlene do everything they can to help make sure that everybody in the audience is having a good time... which leaves everybody walking out that venue feeling like they're in a lucky haze!

Heh, you should've told me before- I just had to go through this same crap several months ago. I don't even want to get into it. There's billions of fake accounts out there. Ignore it! This probably won't be the first time you'll get a message from weirdos like them.
18  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / All About John / Re: John and Christy Brinkley split! on: August 25, 2016, 02:36:04 pm
I KNEW this was going to happen. Hahah... I swear I can see into the future  Grin Roll Eyes
The reason why I knew it wasn't meant to be was because it seems like John is rushing into his relationships too much and too fast. That's my own personal opinion, but also I don't see how they're compatible at all. She's a big city girl, he's a small town guy. He should date small town girls. Now I do like Christie (she was born only a couple miles down the road from me in Monroe, MI) and of course I love John, but I don't see them really being anything more than friends. In my opinion, Elaine was the best girl he ever dated/married for him. She had the perfect energy for him and he even admitted she kept him level-heated at times. I still don't understand why they divorced. Was it so bad that they just couldn't work it out or were they lazy?
19  NON-JOHN DISCUSSION / The Melting Pot / Re: Ian Mellencamp on: August 25, 2016, 02:22:28 pm
I don't like his music lol. First song I heard I was kinda disgusted. He's not horrible but I definitely would not want to sit and listen to him for a while lol. And interesting he's related to John; 'cause I asked somebody a long time ago and they said they weren't related. Hmmm!
20  NON-JOHN DISCUSSION / The Melting Pot / There Are Nice People In This World on: July 08, 2016, 01:23:50 am
I have to post something here because it's just so unbelievable. It's not completely John Mellencamp related but I feel it's important to tell.
So I am not rich. I do not grow money on trees in my backyard. That being said, when they announced the John Mellencamp tour for this October, I was conflicted. I didn't know whether I was going to have enough money to see him.
Then in June I learned that another artist I wanted to see, Elton John, was also touring near me in September. He is retiring, so I knew this would be my last chance to see him. I was once again lost. I just didn't know what to do- clearly I couldn't afford one concert- let alone two. The prices of "classic rock" concerts have been on the rise so much lately.
So I was destined to be doomed- or so I THOUGHT. Earlier in July for my birthday, friends and family gave me a total of $220- something I was NOT expecting!! So then I knew I was at least going to the John Mellencamp concert. That was all I could ask for. I was so happy that people had pitched in and gave me all that money. It meant a lot to me.
But then it gets BETTER. Today, I was graciously given $300 freakin' dollars from practical strangers... just so I could go to this Elton John concert. I mean you GOT to be kidding me!? Right? The amounts of happiness in my heart right now is EXPLODING. So now I have enough to go to BOTH these concerts. And now they're marked in my calendar- these are such big days!
This is just something that could only happen with the help of other generous, kind people. I just want to point out to you guys that miracles CAN happen, and to NEVER lose your hope. If there's a concert, or a person you want to meet, or a goal... whatever that may be, NEVER give up. With the right community and people around you, you CAN accomplish anything. And this is proof.
So I think the best song to describe my mood right now would be "Thank You"!!!

21  MELLENCAMP.COM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Ask Mellencamp.com / Re: Piano Player Needed This Saturday-Sunday in Chicago on: July 08, 2016, 12:48:41 am
I play piano, and I know practically every John Mellencamp, Bob Seger, Elton John, Little Richard, and Jerry Lee Lewis song out there, but for the life of me I can't read a damn single note lol. So I guess I'm useless lmao.
22  MELLENCAMP.COM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Ask Mellencamp.com / Re: Obtaining John's autograph on: July 08, 2016, 12:45:22 am
I'm sure you'll get an autograph!! Cheesy 'Cause I sent him a letter last year in the beginning of July, and I got a response/autograph just two months later at the end of August! I never felt so exited getting mail in my life. (He may respond later, I think I just got lucky with him responding so quickly.)
And proof, you can see it here: http://pre07.deviantart.net/d21d/th/pre/f/2015/231/9/3/z_49_by_mellencamplover-d96cmfs.jpg
23  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / All About John / Re: Would It Ever Be Possible To Meet John Mellencamp? on: July 08, 2016, 12:38:49 am
Lol yup, I didn't meet him the last time like I wanted, but I came close. I saw him by his tour bus and I was like a good 10 feet away from him. I shouted his name, even though I knew he didn't notice lmao... but it was hell of a lot of fun anyways. The security told us we had to go away, which is no problem. He probably wants to just relax and just go to bed after those shows (hell I know I wanted to haha) I did meet Miriam though! And I got quite a few pictures with her! She was super nice- and I mean SUPER nice. She acted like she was stunned to meet me (she saw me before because I was in the front row) she wouldn't stop complimenting me. I felt honored!
So I'm trying to see if I can catch him again after a show in Toledo this time. I might happen- I think the reason why he "ignored" his fans after the last show was because it was at a casino. (Casino shows are terrible, and I speak from experience... gah) so this next show I'm going to is at a theater and it will be different. I'm so excited!
24  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Video & Audio / Re: New YouTube channel Mellencamp TV on: July 08, 2016, 12:28:48 am
I saw your channel as "recommended" a few days ago- I checked it out and subscribed! You have a lot of epic stuff on there that I've never seen before. Awesome!! Cheesy
25  NON-JOHN DISCUSSION / Music You Like / Bob Seger's Birthday! on: May 06, 2016, 08:39:03 pm
Hey- I just wanted to make a little post here honoring MY hometown hero! I'm not from Indiana, I'm from Michigan, and here our hometown hero is the one and only Bob Seger!!

Today is Bob's birthday, he was born on May 6th, 1945 and grew up in Ann Arbor, MI. Happy 71st Birthday Bob Seger. One of my biggest heroes and inspirations- Seger is the main reason why I have so much love and pride for my homestate. I'd never leave this place, because he helped establish what Detroit is today- a wonderful, beautify city just like his songs. I am proud as heck to call myself a young Seger fan, and I wouldn't want it any other way. Seger, you are a Michigan favorite for many important reasons. Your songs represent and reflect love, growth, maturity, and many life lessons for young ones like me to hear. We are damn lucky to have you as hardworking hometown hero! You are a mascot here and you know it!

I have seen Bob Seger live twice, met his band, and received his autograph. It was amazing being able to hug and talk to some of his band mates and friends, like Barbara Payton, Laura Creamer, Shaun Murphy, Jim "Moose" Brown, Alto Reed, Tom Weschler, and many others. He and his band are just about the nicest people ever- Bob's still another awesome, devoted heartland rocker like John Mellencamp. Musicians like them, I swear- never get the recognition and all that they deserve, in my opinion anyways. I'm glad Bob Seger is still with us, and I hear rumors that another album and tour may be coming. I don't know how many 70 year old you know who are selling out arenas like this guy! Grin

Anyway, I just wanted to share my love for Bob Seger here, and wish yet another great musician a very happy birthday! I must stand for my heroes! Smiley
26  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Mellenmoments / Re: Jack and Diane Ringtone on: May 03, 2016, 03:26:02 pm
Ahhh that is so ironic... I have some Mellencamp tunes as my ringtone too! I had Jack and Diane for a little bit actually but I believe I switched it to Paper and Fire. I don't know because my phone is always on silent. LOL But that's GREAT that you get to see him and hear his songs! He is a real thrill live! <3 I love him! You will probably break down and cry after his shows from pure AWESOMENESS! I know I did haha!
27  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Tour Talk / Re: Got good seats for Columbia, MO on: April 27, 2016, 08:28:20 pm
Ahhh awesome! What row? I got lucky at a previous show. I had some pretty good seats, but they were off to the side. Me and my friend were sitting alone on the side, and the security guard asked us if we wanted to sit in the FRONT ROW, CENTER. You betcha I had a HUGE smile on my face, haha! Turns out they were trying to fill in empty seats (weird because the show sold out). Maybe something awesome will happen to you. It was the greatest thing a security guard ever said to me haha! I got to touch John's hand because I was so close!  Smiley
28  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Mellenmoments / The Most Pathetic Mistake I Have Ever Made on: April 27, 2016, 02:37:55 pm
Last night, I did probably the most horrible thing imaginable. At least, for a Mellencamp fan. I just felt like sharing this story because it was embarrassingly hilarious, and also devastating. Maybe some of you Mellenheads out there have done somehting similar? Anyways...
So, I had John Mellencamp's autograph in my hands last night and I was jamming out and listening to his songs in bed. I was smiling, having a GREAT time. I was probably the happiest girl in the world, because I had John's autograph right here in my hands, I just saw him live in concert, and he is my HERO. Well, I just happened to look over my shoulder, and I saw a bottle of my perfume on my dresser. I was tempted to put it on, so I did. Then, I started acting like a fool, spraying it around my room while listening to John's music. I was having a BLAST acting like a typical 17 year old girl- (the CD I was playing was Cuttin' Heads, in case you were wondering). Suddenly, I got the "brilliant idea" to spray the perfume on his autograph because I wanted it to smell good. (The WORST IDEA I EVER HAD IN MY LIFE). So I did in fact spray a little bit of it on the autograph. Then I took the sheets and rubbed it off a little so it would dry. What an IDIOT I am! You know what happened exactly... it faded away almost completely! I was so devastated, tears began to run down my cheeks IMMEDIATELY and I quickly grabbed a sharpie to try to write over it... but it's not the same... John, my idol and hero, gave his autograph to me an I ruined it. I didn't even have it for a year! So, I am writing him a letter and I'm telling him all about my foolishness and my genuine mistake, hoping I can have a real autograph and not one poorly traced over by me. I promised him I'd take such good care of it I'll even put it in a frame. I feel like the biggest idiot in the world... and if you've done something similar, please tell me. This was the WORST Mellenmoment I've ever had, hands down.
29  MELLENCAMP.COM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Ticket & Tour Questions / Re: No shows in California or on the West Coast?? on: April 27, 2016, 11:40:42 am
Oh okay. Well personally I cannot wait for a new album and tour already (whever that'll be lol) I really want to see him perform at different places and cities. And I really want to hear different songs, like "Your Life Is Now". That would be purely awesome. I'm about to go to my 3rd show of the Plain Spken tour and the setlist is (almost) beginning to bore me. I would prefer less hits and more lesser know material, but I know that could NEVER happen. I wish he would do another Live By Request concert.  Oh well! I love all his songs anyways so I'm not complainin'.
30  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / All About John / Re: PLEASE HELP! "Never Too Old" digital format. on: April 25, 2016, 09:57:10 pm
Hey, the download link above doesn't work anymore. Does anybody else know where to get a good MP3 of this song? The youtube video is horrendous quality lol.
