The Lonesome Jubilee.

I mean, come on.  Is this a trick question?

For me it used to be Human Wheels, now it's No Better Than This, followed closely by Life, Death, Love & Freedom, John's last two albums really are his best, i cannot wait for the next one.

It shouldn't be about which one rocks the hardest, it should be about which one has the strongest songs, there's no doubt in my mind it's the last two, i think John would agree.

For me, Life, Death, Love and Freedom by a long shot!  Brilliant song writing & music...a complete package.  Feels like the real John; and with so much for every person to identify with thrown in too!

I love all of John's albums but my favorite has to be
The Lonesome Jubilee and Big Daddy. Those two strike a cord with me.

I agree that it shouldn't.  It just so happens that WWW is my fave and it rocked!  The song writing and messages are just as evident in WWW as they are in LDLF and NBTT.  All good stuff.  The only release I still don't listen to entirely from time to time is LDLF.  Love the LIVE version though.  Much, much better!

I have to agree, the lyrics in Life, Death, Love & Freedom might be his best but I simply can't get through that album.  I like Mellencamp because he because his music creates a feeling.  For some reason that album doesn't do it for me.  I think Nothing Better Than This has nearly as good of lyrics as LDLF but has alot more passion in it.  For me the best albums to listen to from start to finish are.

1. Big Daddy
2. Nothing Better Than This
3. Whenever We Wanted
4. Lonesome Jubilee
5. Freedoms Road
Mr. Happy Go Lucky/John Mellencamp are great as well but have a few throw out songs

"Big Daddy" has always done it for me.
Still as relevant today despite some of the topical subjects.
After that "Life, Death, Love & Freedom"
