As anyone who's heard John Mellencamp perform solo can attest, the folk-rock star has the chops to go it alone. This time out, however, he's opted for plenty of company as he tours in support of his latest CD, "No Better Than This."

Along with a six-piece band, Mellencamp kicked off the tour last week (10/29) in his hometown of Bloomington, IN, and is set to crisscross North America through next spring. Mellencamp's set lists are a mixture of new material and old, including hits like "Pink Houses," "Jack and Diane," "Small Town," "Paper in Fire" and "R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.," to name a few.

Tomorrow (11/5) fans can catch Mellencamp and his band at The Midland by AMC in Kansas City, MO, and Saturday (11/6) the tour arrives at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis. SoundSpike photographer Samantha Shrader attended the show last night (11/3) at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, and here are some of her best shots.
