Mellencamp Tix Push Pledge Drive

Today, I was working the phones at WNKU 89.7, Cincinnati, during their semi annual pledge drive. It's a well known fact at the studio, at least with one particular music host and the the marketing directors that I am a Mellencamp fan.
The phones were pretty slow UNTIL they offered, as a bonus, two tickets to John's show at Music Hall in Cincinnati for a $150 pledge. The music host played "Love & Happiness," talked a little about the John's show with the movie, etc etc. & how he didn't think he had ever played Music Hall before. Phones were still idle. I went in and handed him a slip of paper, told him the format of the show was reported to be stripped down acoustic, solo acoustic, and then ending with rocking the classics. He started chatting that up, even mentioned me as being a numero uno fan and I was working the phones, etc etc. then played MTM from Rough Harvest, and the phones started ringing...off the hook. Everyone wanted those tickets lol!
One cool phone call I took was from someone, as we compared notes, and I told her I had been following JM for 30 years, she proceeded to tell me she had me beat, she had been following JM since she was 9 years old, her father and brother took her to a show in NYC, where she lived at the time, a concert by the piers, was how she described it, in 1976 or 1977.
The music host kept talking up the tickets, played "Danger List" and then proceeded that with a Larry Crane tune and mentioned me again as numero uno fan working the phones. lol. All in all, 10 pair of tickets were up for grabs and they went very fast.
It was a great afternoon, I left with a smile on my face.

It was fun. This music host grew up in Indiana, it's always a JM lovefest when I see him. I shot him an email and let him know Tavis Smiley was emcee at Farm Aid and he told me he grew up in same town as Tavis, they went to rival high schools.
He is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to JM. He was even talking, on the air, about the tours John was kicked off because he upstaged the main acts. He was talking about "The Kinks" tour, then I reminded him about the Kiss tour as well. He went back on the air and told the listeners, Cindy, numero uno JM volunteer, reminded him of the Kiss tour, too.
