My guess would be bus because Air fair is awfully expensive.

If John flies, then what is the silver trailer for? I know that is John's. or is that used for short trips?

The Airstream is for JM to hang out in before the shows (instead of back stage or in a hotel). He does not use it for travelling. Someone hauls the Airstream from venue to venue for him and sets it up before he arrives.
