The music industry in those days was in a position of strength.  MTV was instrumental in that.  Today the music industry is in shambles.  Record low album sales for a lot of artists due to music being downloaded free off the internet, etc.  Pat Benatar, John Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, etc., solidified their popularity through MTV, radio airplay, good management and record company support. (promotion)  Of course being talented helps.  Today's young artists, for the most part, don't have the talent or the exposure. 

It's great to say the videos from those days.
