1  MELLENCAMP.COM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Ticket & Tour Questions / US tour tickets for sale - special circumstances on: December 11, 2018, 11:37:02 pm
It is with a sad heart I put this up here:
I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer [currently recovering from a lumpectomy] and will be going through chemo / radiotherapy until the end of March 2019 - this includes all the dates I have bought tickets for.

When I bought the tickets I was living in Canada, but am now back living in Australia.

The problem being I cannot sell the tickets via 'ticket now' as you need to have a residence in US/Canada. Many of them are collect at the venue, but some are print at home. $2000+ is a lot of money to lose. *FYI i have also not be able to access any of the 'free' CD offer as they too only mail to USA/Canada.

I have 1 ticket for all these shows - 2nd row mostly, 2 third and 1 row H. They are all VIP bar 1.

New York all 3 dates x 1
Memphis x1
Nashville 2 dates x 1
Orlando x1
Clearwater 2 dates x 1

Hope someone can help.
This is big ask -  Grin.

You could have eased us into something like this with some later released album comparisons ...  Grin Wink

Still working on my answers... hard to choose when some are a draw!  Roll Eyes

3  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / All About John / Re: John and Meg Ryan are engaged.. on: November 09, 2018, 07:38:55 pm
Wow ... Everyone has their own opinions...

I have never met either John or Meg, but I wish them the best as they are making it work for them.

In this day and age it is hard to maintain relationships [or for many even be in  / start a relationship], let alone if you are in the spotlight.

Congratulations.  Kiss Cheesy

4  MELLENCAMP.COM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Ask / Eyes on the Prize - new single on: November 02, 2018, 06:12:33 pm
Though I have heard this song a few times before by different artists, I was keen to hear John's version again.

So, I have had my first listen of the newly recorded version of - Eyes on the Prize [cover] - Other People's Stuff.

It reminded me a lot of the sound quality achieved on the 'No Better Than This' CD / album.

IMHO - slick rhythm and something to groove to.

I can't wait to hear this live.

Wonder what everyone else thinks?
Thanks for the info. I have said it in another thread, but will here too - we usually have to wait a while between albums/CDs - so this is another present courtesy of John [the live Chicago CD/DVD was the first] - thank you.  Kiss

I look forward to hearing the new arrangements for some / all? of the songs. As there are only 10 songs that would mean there are still spaces when performing live, for crowd pleasers / hits.

Will John perhaps be performing 'Eyes on the Prize' as a teaser for any of the remaining shows in Canada, such as Kamloops or Kelowna?

Would be a nice surprise for the Canadian fans.
6  MELLENCAMP.COM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Ask / Re: Album info, single and preorder on: November 02, 2018, 01:04:13 pm
As this is the official list on the album, there are only 2 songs I'm not totally familiar with. Will be interesting to see how they are arranged. I'm excited about this, we usually have to wait ages between albums - win win for the fans! Thanks John! Smiley
7  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Tour Talk / Re: Lethbridge Show on: October 30, 2018, 10:34:42 pm
Thanks for the update from this show.

Hope the encore thing is a continuing thing.
Maybe the song choice can be mixed up, a different one each time.
Keeps us guessing. Smiley
8  MELLENCAMP.COM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Ask / Re: THE VOICE JUDGE " JOHN MELLENCAMP" on: October 25, 2018, 01:29:44 pm
A guest judge, like Keith Urban perhaps... but listen to John's thoughts on the processes of the newer artists and then you may have a great insight to whether he'd do this or not.
9  MELLENCAMP.COM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Ask / Re: Album info, single and preorder on: October 25, 2018, 12:49:11 pm
How could it be announced there and not officially here yet...
Sounds fishy...
10  MELLENCAMP.COM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Ticket & Tour Questions / Australian Tour - any chance for 2019? on: October 18, 2018, 12:18:08 pm
Is there any chance that John and the band will be touring Australia after the USA tour 2019 or later that year? It has been a while since he has come 'Downunder'.

For consideration:
* who the tour promoter is
* when the ads for the shows are actually aired [not 11pm -  midnight, like last time] and frequency
* hitting the social media sites hard to promote and giving enough time for people to plan etc for shows
* getting interviews on the main talk shows [including radio] / morning TV / paid TV like Foxtel, with John to announce the tour etc
* finding someone who knows the type of venues suited to John's style of concert - wineries, not the way to go, long ways to travel, limited accommodation and shite to leave after the show if you are driving - eg Sidney Myer music bowl - great indoor/outdoor area, suited for warmer weather from November to March OR The Plenary - great, intimate venue, new, comfy seating and sound and accessible for transport and accommodation needs [and this is just Melbourne venues as a start]
* picking venues that are central, allows for a wider range of people to access the shows and stay in accommodation that is suited to their financial levels - ie pick a venue within the main cities or larger country cities / towns - guaranteed better attendance and link to public transport etc
* comparative prices to tickets in the US and Canada  - VIP tickets retailed for the last tour, which was cancelled in OZ, for over $1000, compared to $300+ in the US and Canada - even with conversions to AU$, the discrepancy in prices is a lot. NOTED: it is understandable that there a large costs associated with a tour and the distance obviously. I believe IMHO that lowering prices would also improve ticket sales. **Look at how easily they have been selling for the USA tour next year...

Any other Aussies out there have any more ideas? - we really want to get John and the band back to OZ soon...
11  MELLENCAMP.COM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Ask / Re: Album info, single and preorder on: October 18, 2018, 11:48:06 am
maybe once the Canadian tour is done we will get more info... or perhaps he'll treat them with a showing of the new single as a taster in the last couple of shows? Who knows... Roll Eyes

Thanks for your kind words Tony, wish we could have caught up!
13  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Tour Talk / St Catharine's Show on: October 08, 2018, 09:58:30 am
As I sit here with my morning coffee, I reflect on last night's sold out show in the intimate Meridian Centre, St Catharine's. I personally don't know how John and the band can play night after night and still come on stage with the same amount of energy as the first show. I guess it takes years of practise, with set and healthy routines - ??

It was an emotional night - playing on your birthday, is an interesting feat. There were 2 renditions of 'Happy Birthday' and John took it gracefully, humbled by it all, bless.

The crowd were on their feet from the moment 'Lawless Times' started and pretty much stood, sang and danced for 85% of the show. Kudos to the couple near me who boogied the night away at the front - loved it.   Smiley

Speaking to people in the crowd as I have been since arriving in Canada, many were seeing John for the first time, but last night a lot had seen him many, many times. To quote one lady "I buy tickets to John's shows, no questions asked, why, because I know I am going to have a great time, pure and simple."  As a long time fan, I whole heartedly agree. I have bought tickets to shows for 2019 and I haven't even heard the new CD yet, but I know it will be great and the shows value for money.

The show ran like clockwork, starting at 8pm with the mini doco and the crowd listened well. The show concluded at about 10pm-10.10pm mark - John plays through, with maybe a 5 minute pitstop in the middle where Miriam and Troye weave their magic on the violin and accordion respectively for the Overture. IMHO John's voice has got better with age and adds an extra quality to the songs. The show is well choreographed, as I have mentioned before, giving all the band a chance to shine and show the mastery of their instruments and talents. There is wit, cheeky banter, some political statements and some home truths that need to be said.

Songs of the night: Pink Houses, Authority Song & Crumblin' Down crowd favs with high participation etc, but the winner by far with a standing ovation from some and loud clapping of approval was 'Easy Target' - very moving.

So as the lights came up for another show's end and the people filed out, lots of happy chatter about how great the show was, where was 'Hurt So Good?', looking forward to hearing the new CD etc... I could go on, the benefits of waiting for an Uber, you can listen...

As we drove off and saw people hanging around waiting for John to come out, and the roadies so efficiently packing things up, I end by again thanking John and the band for another great show - see you on the flip side in a few weeks - Canada beckons, much to continue to see and do, friends to visit ...

Happy birthday John - blessings.  Cheesy
14  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Tour Talk / Re: Kingston show - a review of sorts on: October 07, 2018, 07:02:38 am
I know you wrote about the show already and glad you had a great time - it was awesome, but I thought I'd reply anyway. I guess its hard when an act has been on the scene for so long and have a vast catalogue to choose from, as John does. I'd love to hear more off Sad Clowns, as it is a 'Sad Clowns' Tour and yeah it be cool to hear Jackie Brown.

In the end, I am happy that John still tours, has a great voice and keeps his music alive with generations to come.
15  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Tour Talk / OSHAWA - OMG - YOU ROCK! on: October 06, 2018, 10:59:28 pm
Words cannot begin to express how awesome tonight was at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa. There was a certain buzz in the audience. Perhaps it was the anticipation of what was to come, could have been the beers, no matter - it was a massive party and John was the guest of honour.

People had come from near and far to be here, some for the first time and some repeat goers. Needless to say when John hit the stage at 8.30pm [after the great documentary], all systems were go.

Like all the shows so far, I believe the fans take a while to get their bearings, take some footage or photos and have their 'OMG we are here and there's John' moment. But when 'Small Town' comes on.... Oshawa, like the rest, let loose! Talk about a choir of voices - you guys were in great form - man oh man! Many goosebump moments.

I was lucky enough to be sitting to the right of the stage this time around and I must say Mike and Jon didn't disappoint. Jon, the pocket rocket, encouraging us all to participate and sing louder - such a fun and talented guy! Mike, I take back the unassuming comment, mate, you rocked the stage baby!! This man has serous skills - take some time to watch how he plays. A genius, with no time for napping! [when you see the show you will understand this comment].

John - another super performance tonight, delightfully cheeky at times - full of great stories, sang the hits, so passionate and encouraged whole-hearted audience involvement. Those overalls you wear must have some sort of superpower, as you were on fire today with all those dance moves and great guitar work!  Shocked Shocked Shocked

****The audience, all be it a day early, broke out into 'happy birthday' to John. A nice moment and a lucky fan even had a chance to hand him a card and flowers.****  Kiss

Stand out song/s for the night: - there were so many - Full Catastrophe - so dramatic, so beautiful. Lawless Times - just so funky! Jack and Diane - 2nd verse people!! LOL - we sang as one and it was GOOD!

Moment of the night for me: during Pink Houses it goes ...'Ain't that America for you and me...' instead the young lads next to me sang 'Ain't that Canada for you and me...'  Smiley
Happy Thanks Giving Canada.  Kiss

Another stand out show John and the band, thank you.
Remember this is a show not to be missed - grab a ticket if you can, tomorrow in St Catharine's it will be a special night, bring your best voices and dancing shoes!
