I wish them all the best, especially the kids its not fair to them. I dont know the circumstances but the marriage obviously wasnt working anymore. What I find is sad is the fact John always jokes about how the "family doesnt like him much anyways" he said it recently on Letterman. If your having family issues you dont joke about things like that unless your a little messed up in the head. I love Johns music but I think we all know he is not a role model. Elaine deserves better then a grumpy old man who is basically waiting to die. I still like Mellencamp and think hes a good person and has amazing music, hes just a strange individual which im sure fuels his creative side.

I agree the smoking thing is annoying to keep bringing up BUT... heres the thing Letterman is good friends with Michael Douglas and I think its been rough seeing his friend struggle with throat cancer. I think Letterman being a fan of Johns music like all of us wants to make sure he can keep making new music for awhile, especially considering how good this new album and tour are. Everyone has bad habits and hopefully Johns stays healthy in other ways, just scary considering the man did have a heart attack at such a young age.
On a lighter side the beard looked awesome and the song was performed to perfection, probably my favorite performance he has done on Letterman.

Amazing show, I loved it. Used to live near Chicago and flew out from Tucson to see him... and the the family of course, lol. The crowd for the most part was energetic and dancing most of the time. Sadly there were a few groups of people that were extremely rude from the top balcony yelling for him to play old stuff (while he was playing a slow song), I was able to hear them all the way down at the bottom and had a hard time hearing John. Just ridiculous John has said this concert was going to be different maybe about a 1000 times. For me this concert was great and I am a younger Mellencamp fan (24) and I listen to all sorts of old and new music and I think his direction that he has taken is fantastic. The first time I saw him in 2005 for the words and music tour he was fantastic as well and obviously was playing all of his older stuff but this time around he seems to be more content, relaxed, and happy. It comes across when hes singing and it makes the performance great to watch. I agree with duey23 100% the way he has reworked the songs jack and diane and pink houses is great and Id buy those cuts live in a heartbeat, hope your listening John. First time Ive heard Real Life live and loved it along with If I Die Sudden. Both of those were a treat to see live.

An entire album of songs just like rodeo clown, wow, that would put a smile to my face. I love his new album, but rodeo clown is quite possibly my favorite mellencamp song ever.
