MELLENCAMP.COM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Ask Mellencamp.com / Re: Reproducing old vinyl

Most of John's albums sound fabulous in their original vinyl and CD editions, remasters are a crap shoot regardless of whether it's analog or digital, some are an improvement and some are the complete opposite. I would love to see vinyl releases for Whenever We Wanted, Human Wheels, 98 S/T, Cuttin' Heads, and most of all ''Freedom's Road'' because the available CD of that one s is mastered way too loud, and is sorely lacking in dynamics, a downright shame for such a great album.

MELLENCAMP.COM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Ask Mellencamp.com / Re: What's up with Rolling Stone magazine?? No "Sad clowns and hillbillies" review?

So glad to know I'm not alone in my thinking! I've said the same thing about both for years. It kills me that Bruce can do something John has done years before and then get praise for his "ground breaking" work. It may not be his fault but I can't listen to him because of that. Well, that's not entirely true, I cannot deal with his voice either!
Lisa in Georgia
I cannot stand his voice either, but it's not only that, it's also that wanna-be midwestern/southern accent of his ''or whatever the hell it is'' the stupid bandana, the make-up, and the way he struts on stage like he's still 25. But what really gets my dander up is the fact that so many of his apparently blind and tone deaf followers still think John is the lightweight of the two. Still none of that would matter if his post 70s output was one tenth as interesting and compelling as John's is, but it's not even close.

And now RollingStone just put out their top 50 albums "so far" of 2017 and once again John Mellencamp's - sad clowns and hillbillies album was not on the list. What a joke!!! I'm about to unsubscribe to that magazine, that makes no fucking sense. That magazine gives John Mellencamp no love at all. If Bruce Springsteen put that same album out, that magazine would say it's an instant classic and give it five stars!!! They are so biased to certain people it's not even funny. I'm done with that garbage magazine... 😡😡😡 RollingStone magazine is= 🐶💩
I have nothing but contempt for both RS and Bruce, one is garbage and the other has been putting out mostly garbage for decades. Both are, and have been extremely overrated for as long as i can remember, they deserve each other.

MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Tour Talk / Re: Sept 13 2001 concert Massachusetts

I was there and this the single greatest, most memorable concert of John's i've ever attended, and i've seen him about two dozen times. It may be the single greatest concert by anyone that i've ever attended, you had to BE there. I think from the incredible opening cover of ''Gimme Shelter'' to the last note played i had chills the whole evening, it just doesn't get ''No Better Than This''. I would love to see a Blu-Ray release of this show, or documentary of the tour preferably to be shown i theaters across America, one can dream right.

A giant fuck you to RS, any rag that wouldn't include John in their top 100 songwriters is completely irrelevant and therefore not worth the effort.
I haven't looked at the list because my gut feeling was that John wouldn't be on it, Rolling Stone has no credibility with me, they're garbage as far as i'm concerned.
There are two songwriters i'd put ahead of John, they are Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, and if if i were to judge them on their last four albums John would probably be on top.

MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / All About John / Re: New live album slated for July release ''Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood''.

I was a Springsteen fan before i ever knew who John was, but even then i thought he was overrated. I guess i too fell for all the media hype i'll always associate with the Boss, you know the ''i've just seen the future of rock & roll and his name is Bruce Springsteen'' shit. I think right around the time of ''The River'' is when i lost all interest in him and his music.
Forward a few years to 83 ''i think'' and i hear what i think is the new Rolling Stones single ''Crumblin' Down'' coming out of my car speakers and i'm blown away when i find out it's John. Yeah the same guy who up to that point had been the whipping boy of both the rock media and Springsteen fan boys, from that day on i had no time or patience for either, i knew John was BETTER, and time has only proven me right.
As i said before i have no problem with Springsteen both as a person or as an artist, but for the most part i just cannot stand his fans. It seems there are two kinds of Boss fans, the ones that think John exists just to copy whatever Bruce does, and those who'll never give him the time of day. I think i actually ''prefer'' that last one, but to be kind and to quote The Who ''they can all just fade away'' as far as i'm concerned.
