136  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Polls / Re: Favorite Song From NBTT on: September 01, 2010, 12:00:57 pm
west end´s lyrics and the way john sings it, makes it special for me. sounds like a conclusion, a final statement about the usa. fantastic country, but something must have gone wrong. as i am not living in the us, i cannot judge on this, but to hear these words together with the current world situation...

this is tough...scarecrow from the "first career", and freedom´s road (or better LDLF??) from the "second chapter"
138  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / I Knew Him When He Was Johnny Cougar / Re: First time i REALLY heard John on: September 01, 2010, 11:38:32 am
my favourite rock radio night program in provincial west germany used to play 2 songs to introduce an artist. some day in 1985 they played "jack&diane+lonely ol´night". the name of the singer to me sounded like the wild west, like america itself, the freedom i was seeking for. since that day john´s music has accomponied me through life. 1988 during the "lonesome jubilee" world tour, i got the chance to see him live for the first time. 91 i travelled to the usa for the first time and saw him in los angeles, one year later again in germany. since then i´ve been waiting for another european tour. hopefully there will be one next year.

dont understand the critic on the box set. unlike usual box sets which are rarely more than a compiled version of already released compilations, this box set is unique in my opinion.
thanks to god it´s not a hits collection. like TonyB explained, there have been greatest hits cds released before. the box set instead focused on many songs that have been forgotten, and there are many songs in john´s catalogue that are much better than all the hits. so a one-cd-version of this box set would be difficult to do. what songs would you select or leave out?
the examples of t.petty and black crowes are exactly the opposite, they are about making money. to release a single cd out of a cd-box doesn´t make sense for me, because fans will buy the box set anyway, either straightaway or little later after saving money for it.
i´v been waiting for this box set for many years, and the final release now made me smile. the whole concept is convincing to me, the selection of songs and the layout is great and worth every cent!

Lonesome Jubilee Tour 1988, Whenever We Wanted Tour 1992, a few promotional gigs for John Mellencamp album in 1998. empty hands since then...

a european tour is well overdue, there are more fans here than you would expect. fans that dont get jm songs on the radio, tv interviews or any other promotional events. we´re glad about the record coming out and just keep on listening to the songs, for decades now...
thanks to this website which lets us participate! the new design of the site is fantastic, the old newspaper-style perfectly fits the music, well done to all involved!

Europe is waiting, germany in particular! (will post this now and then, so that we will not be forgotten)
