Nobody wants to tell JM what to do, neither do I. But JM doesn´t care at all about the people (fans) who made him what he is today. Without people buying his music and attending his shows, he would be nobody!

It is obvious, that he has totally lost contact to his fans. He is an arrogant musician, who makes great music but as a person I don´t want to meet him. I bet you guys all have read the book "Born in a small town" from Heather Johnson. Maybe only half of it is true, but ask most of the musicians who worked with him and they will mostly agree that he sure is a Little Bastard. And this tour through Europe proves it. Most of the shows in Europe weren´t sold out, I suppose because of the high ticket prices. He then often behaves like an arrogant asshole and wonders himself that he gets booed. And what happened last night? He cancelled last night´s show in Udine! Of course I don´t know the reason for it but it´s pretty obvious that he is pissed that he can´t sell out his shows and that people booed him almost every evening, especially in Rome and Vigevano where he only played for 70 minutes! I would boo anyone, even Bob Dylan and Van Morrison, who plays that short, especially when there is a movie ahead that is almost longer than the show!

I bet he will never ever return to Europe (which is very sad) but for me he himself is to be blamed for that. This whole tour is the logical consequence of JMs marketing strategy of the last few years: The 4-CD-Box Rural Route was way overpriced, ticket prices were overpriced, the coast of CDs at his shows (25 Euros!!!) was overpriced! Suddenly he sells his songs to TV-commericials! For me it´s very clear that he just came over to Europe to make (more) money, not to to bring his music to his europe fans. He noticed that it didn´t work out and now he is pissed.

I used to be a huge Mellencamp-Fan and own all of his CDs. I even traveled to Seymour, IN, in hope to meet him in 1992  , I even paid 65 Euros for the Boxset, but this tour, as great as the show itself in Berlin was, makes me as a longtime fan very angry and sad. Of course, I keep on listening to his music but I will never attend one of his shows because that´s not the way you treat your fans.

So happy for you to finally see JM in your homeland, but sorry to hear that it wasn't all a positive experience.

Just a thought......if it was an outdoor venue and they had to wait for the sun to go down before starting the movie, would there have been a curfew?  I know a lot of local authorities have noise restrictions, so maybe this is the reason the show was so much shorter than they have been.

Of course, that could be, but if this really is the case then that´s one more argument against that stupid package with that movie. You don´t pay 80 Euros for a 65-minutes-boring-selfpraising movie and a 70 minute concert. Come on, everybody knows that the sun goes down late in summer and that there might be a curfew! It was obviously the same at the concert in Vigevano the night before.

I feel so sorry for you. According to a fan who went to the show the night before he played there also only for 70 minutes. That is shame!

By the way: I used to have that same T-Shirt from the "Whemever we wanted tour 1992"! I threw it away a few years ago, don´t ask me why!

It seems that JM doesn´t care at all about anything and anyone but himself. That is really sad.

  Seems, there are a lot of fans of both!

I was just reading a review about that show on the Springsteen-Fan-Website www.greasylake.org from a woman who was at the show. She also was very unsatisfied with the show and complained that the doors  opened just shortly before 8 p.m. and the film was already playing. JM then didn´t appear on stage before 9:45! I can imagine that people who didn´t know what to expect start booing. I mean, they were booing in Berlin when John came on stage at 9:25, but to wait another 20 more minutes could be a little bit too much.

Although I really liked the show in Berlin I still think that the whole package of that show sucks. John really should re-think that package, but it seems that he just doesn´t care at all what the fans want. That is kind of sad.

I still think he should mix up his setlist a little bit. It must be kind of boring not only for himself and the band but also for the fans following him around Europe (like you  ) and of course for Meg Ryan!

By the way: How was the reaction of this lame crowd to the movie? Must have been even worse, I guess.

To be honest, I don´t need either an opening act nor a movie. But to make my statement clear: I thought the movie wasn´t a bad idea but it was way too long! If the movie just had the parts in it about making the new record and about America it would have been OK (and way shorter). But it doesn´t make sense to me to show video clips of live performances from songs you are going to see really live a few minutes later on a screen with real instruments in the background.

I´m not saying that I liked the 92-tour better. It was just different and I liked both concepts. I think the mix of this tour is very good but wouldn´t it be nice if he had played a little bit longer, some more old songs AND some more of the newer stuff? His catalogue of music is so huge that he could have played at least full two hours and maybe 30 minutes more. The more I think about it, the more I think the concert was too short but maybe that´s because I´m used to the long shows from Springsteen;-)

I went to see the show in Berlin. It was a great show, although I thought it would be little bit longer. 1 hour 55 Minutes is O.K. but after not touring through Germany for 19 years it could have been a little bit more.

Compared to the two shows I saw in 1992 - in Vancouver, Canada, and in Frankfurt, Germany - this show was very different, all three were great though.

I guess you all already have discussed the movie. I knew that there will be a movie instead of a support act and I kind of looked forward to that movie, but I never ever expected it to be 65 minutes long! That is - sorry I have to say that - ridiculous. I have never ever seen anything that or who was more self-importance or egomaniacal than this. 20 minutes would have been enough. I really got bored after 20 or so minutes, albeit I thought it was very interesting and I´m a big fan. But for a regular "fan" who knows some of his hits from the radio this was way too much, I guess that´s why some of them booed.

The show itself was very nice, lot of different styles but it seems he playes the same setlist every night. He should have played 3 hours like Springsteen does and bring some more of the older stuff. But I was happy with what I saw.

Hope to see you soon in concert in Germany - but next time please without a movie.
