Outstanding show!!! End of the tour shows are always great. The band was on fire. John was still nursing the cold and was coughing a lot, but seemed to be in a great mood and was dancing around and having a good time. Set list (as best as I can remember) 1). Lawless Times 2). Troubled Man 3). Minutes To Memories 4). Stones In My Passway 5). Check It Out 6). Small Town 7). Pop Singer . The Isolation of Mister 9). Longest Days 10). Jack & Diane 11). The Full Catastrophe 12). Indigo Sunset (with Carlene Carter) 13). My Soul's Got Wings (with Carlene Carter) 14). (Fiddle and Accordion Medley) 15). Rain On The Scarecrow 16). Paper In Fire 17). Crumblin' Down 18). Authority Song 19). Pink Houses 20). Cherry Bomb Some of the early ones may be a little out of order. John and the band sounded great and the crowd was into it...great show!

MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / All About John / Re: Are any of the songs from ''Plain Spoken'' getting radio airplay.

I haven't heard any, but I could see Outlaw Country playing them on Serius XM radio. That's a pretty good station that plays John, Dylan, James McMurtry, Ryan Bingham, John Hiatt, John Prine and all the people I like you can't hear anywhere else.
It's getting airplay, going up the Americana Charts and I have heard TM a bunch of times on Sirius XM's Spectrum. Thanks for chiming in guys, all i gotta say is thank god for Americana, where would veteran artists like John, Robert Plant and so many others be without it's welcoming arms. It just proves that there is still a fan base and desire for music from these artists. Now XM gives the listener more of a choice, and doesn't force upon us what regular radio does.

MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / All About John / Happy Birthday Mr. Mellencamp...

Happy Birthday to John Mellencamp. A lot of great things going on with John right now. Outstanding new album, big tour on the horizon, Ghost Brothers Tour, many public appearances promoting the new record, and probably many more things going on we don't know about.
It's great to see John as active as ever and doing seemingly very well.

I think it was during Farm Aid I noticed that he sang with the gruffness in many of the songs, but one toward the end...might have been "Pink Houses"...he kind of came out of it. He was singing in a higher range, and it was more clear. I remember him talking about how not only would the songs have a different feel on NBTT, but the singing would as well.

I love the album. Unfortunately "The Isolation Of Mister" allows me to see a lot of myself, as many Mellencamp songs have through the years. My favorites are "Troubled Man", "The Isolation Of Mister", "Company Of Cowards", "Blue Charlotte" and "Lawless Times." I like the entire album and I seem to be learning the words quickly.
If you listen to "Company Of Cowards" when John sings the line "I believe to be true" it gives me a flashback of the line "The only promises I know to be true" from "Golden Gates" on the Uh-Huh album. It is just weird how the line and the way he phrased it took me back to that song.

It comes down to numbers. With the number of hits John has recorded over the years. It's impossible to play all the hits in a two-hour show let alone some of the more obscure songs. He is playing a great deal of the new songs off of NBTT (at least he was in the States). That cuts down on the number of remaining songs that can be played. I think it would be a challenge to come up with a set list. Someone is always going to be disappointed that something wasn't played.
I'm a big fan of "Pop Singer", "Play Guitar" and "Get A Leg Up" live, but I understand why he doesn't play those live.

mtotoch, I'm with ya, Kid Rock is one of the people my age carrying the torch for this kind of music to the next generation. He is growing up and saying some great things in his songs.
As for John, he's an artist. So you know he's going to be eccentric and different. Many people with great minds will many times march to a little different beat.

I've been through a divorce, so I could never place judgment on anyone else going through one. Lots of our friends thought my wife and I were a happy couple. We weren't I felt like I was in a cage getting smaller every day. When I finally got out, I was so relieved. She and I get along better today than when we were married.
We don't know what went on in their house, in their lives. I wish nothing but the best for Elaine and John. Both will land on their feet. Both are good people.
