Title: 1984 MTV Paint the Mother Pink Contest Post by: sheilafarmer on January 25, 2012, 10:16:01 am I heard Alan Hunter on my XM radio today talking about the 1984 "Paint The Mother Pink Contest" I remember that contest because I entered it and of coarse did not win. There was an interesting story behind that contest that I did not know.
MTV ran a contest based on this song where they gave away a Pink House. Unfortunately, the house was on a toxic waste dump in Indiana. Mellencamp did not want to poison his fans, so he refused to let them give it away. MTV ended up buying another house and painting it pink for the contest. The winner moved in for 2 days before selling it. I found two Youtube videos to share.
