Title: Re: Hamilton, Ontario show Post by: jogo2011 on October 30, 2011, 03:17:04 am Great Show! Sound was crystal clear. Nice blend of old familiar favourites and new material.
Brought back alot of memories for me personally as the first concert that I ever attended was in 1987 when John played Copps Coliseum here in Hamilton and although 24 years have passed this show was as great as the one 24 years ago. Thanks John Title: Re: Hamilton, Ontario show Post by: bmlncmp101 on October 30, 2011, 09:15:40 am It was amazing!! And funny, that show at Copps was the very first time I saw John, but fortunately many more since!!

Did he tell jokes? ;D Title: Re: Hamilton, Ontario show Post by: bmlncmp101 on October 30, 2011, 10:32:07 am I'm sorry, that comment was in reference to the comment above about jobo going to Copps 24 years ago.
One funny thing though was when John told the story about his grandmother saying "me and buddy are ready to come home", some guy yelled out--Don't go yet Buddy!! Title: Re: Hamilton, Ontario show Post by: rosebb on October 31, 2011, 11:02:08 am Was an amazing show. Has 4th row but went right to the stage when the shows started. At the end, wiggled onto the stage and got the song sheet. Thanks John!!

« Reply #6 on: Today at 11:43:41 AM » Quote Modify Remove -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just want to go on record to say that prior to last Saturday's show, I have always been a huge fan of John and his music. I was very surprised when I bought the overpriced tickets but figured I had never seen John before, it must be something very special because he hasn't toured in so long in Canada, so I bought 2. Expecting a huge show! The pre-show movie was a cheap out for not playing a warm up band. I have never ever seen a band play without one and for them not to even set up lights. What's with that? They used the stage lights so that you could barely make out faces on stage even in the Orchestra seating. Way too much gospel and not even close on the music that everyone there wanted to hear. Take a hint John, Price gouging for tickets; COME ON!, bring your own lights, turn up the sound on vocals, play more of the old stuff ( not even one song from Cutting Heads!) and always come back for an encore. That was without a doubt, honestly the biggest, most disappointing concerts I have ever been to. Did you not notice that when you sang an old tune EVERYONE STOOD UP and sat down when you went off on a gospel tune? CHANGE MANAGERS OR WHOEVER IS YOUR AGENT. signed, RIPPED OFF. maybe other people will do the same and post their opinions. As for "not touring for so long in Canada"....I have seen him 3 times in the Toronto are, at two different venues, during the past 16 months so I beg to differ. In addition there have been plenty of other Canadian cities on various legs of this tour. Title: Re: Hamilton, Ontario show Post by: sheilafarmer on November 01, 2011, 09:07:34 pm I have a friend from Canada I met her a the Dylan, Nelson, Mellencamp baseball park in Central New York a few years ago. Since then she saw him 6 times when he came to Canada and he has not come to Central New York since. That sucks for me. When he does come here, I don't care how much it costs, I am buying a ticket!
Title: Re: Hamilton, Ontario show Post by: rosebb on November 03, 2011, 10:15:04 am OMG!! Obviously you have not been keeping that up to date on John. If u had bought his last 3 Cd's you would know what he is playing and recording. Also check his website for tour dates as he has played numerous times in Canada in the last few years. Also, check setlist.com b4 buying tickets so u know what to expect.
His shows was awesome and everyone i talked to felt the same. Was fabulous!! I have seen our 125 rock shows and this was in the top 10. Title: Re: Hamilton, Ontario show Post by: MadWiccan on November 06, 2011, 09:21:36 pm The show was great. John has gone on record, numerous times over the past year or so, telling people he is NOT playing his greatest hits right now! He has been very, very clear. He is tired of stadium shows where he has to play the same 12 or 15 songs every single night. He has never deceived anybody by promising them the greatest hits and then not delivering. I was surprised how many of his hits he worked in, actually.
The music he has been writing the past few years is the best he has ever done. Sure his hits were, and are, great, but he is continuing to improve and getting better all the time. He is very similar to Bob Dylan in that respect. If you had read anything about John lately you would know he isn't doing his best-of, stadium style shows. He's sick of them. I live in Ontario and have seen him 4 times in the past 3 years. In Syracuse (with Dylan and Willie Nelson), at Casino Rama, at Massey Hall and in Hamilton. I know he played London in the winter of 2008 because I just missed out on seeing him. He played in Windsor just after his Casino Rama show last summer. On those tours he was playing mostly greatest hits. He has been all over the place recently. As for the set up of this show; I'm fine with no opening act. The movie was interesting and if you had already seen it, you knew exactly what the time frame was, which was perfect because you knew you wouldn't miss the music. The show was great. He played lots of his hits and lots of his newer stuff. Bringing out great older songs like Key West Intermezzo was brilliant. It was a great show. No encore, well, so what? He obviously set it up purposely by playing Pink Houses, ROCK in the USA and Cherry Bomb last. What's the difference if he had ended with something else and then come back 2 minutes later and played those 3? He closed the show with 3 of his best loved songs. Nothing wrong with that.! I've seen him on this tour twice and he played between 2 and 2 1/2 hours non-stop both times. I feel like I got my money's worth and then some. Title: Re: Hamilton, Ontario show Post by: ashylarry on November 15, 2011, 10:19:36 am saw John in Greensboro on the 6th. I too was cheated. We had orchestra seats and were totally disgusted with the sound. The first set was loud, muddy mix,all bass and drums with no vocals. Second acoustic set i thought John forgot how the songs went,as if he didn't want to be there. The third set with full drums and electric bass was more than the inept sound man could handle, maybe because his unprofessional self was trying to hook up with a fan during the movie. I like Mellencamp and his music, knew Andy in high school (Scorchers,Mott the Hoople) and wanted to see if his skills had improved. I think the business of music and slick production has driven artists to tell the same "Buddy" stories over and over and not concentrate on the job at hand. 830 to 1030 is a good gig if you can get it! I still love his songs and on his stage it probably sounded good, but whoever got the nod for the house P.A. don"t deserve a Christmas bonus! $90 a ticket was too high,$9 for a 24oz. Bud Light was OK. but....I ain't ever satisfied...

Bud Light was OK. but....I ain't ever satisfied... I'll reply to this because I get to a lot of shows, as does Sharon. The sound on this tour is generally very exceptional and we see tons of positive comments. The company that John hires to do the sound is the best in the business. There are always some spots in the house that have less than ideal sound. Generally if you are in the front 10 rows, especially center or right in front of the speakers on the side, the sound can be less than perfect. There are some seats that are very near the subwoofer cabinets that are pretty bass heavy. The rock set is very heavy on bass, especially when compared to the folk set. There are speakers put on the stage all the way across pointed at the fans, but often if you are in the first few rows you get more of the stage sound which is tailored to John and the band's needs for their performance and their raw amplifier sound. Ideally if you are looking for optimal sound at any concerts seats close to the front are not your best bet. Visually for sure! Here is some fan video from an ordinary camera nothing professional and not tied into the soundboard from that particular show to check out the sound difference being back in the venue. Cherry Bomb Pink Houses Scarecrow Paper In Fire Title: Re: Hamilton, Ontario show Post by: ashylarry on November 18, 2011, 05:18:21 pm Those were really good videos of Ontario! If I get another chance to see Mellencamp it will be outdoors where I might be able to move around a bit. The show in Greensboro was not in the coliseum but in the auditorium. Maybe it was too small a venue for the sound co. His new sound is a lot like older johnny cash with robert johnson thrown in to the mix. Is he trying to channel the old musicians of days gone by? I think it was his older fans who went to his show and the fear of being upstaged by an opening act prompted the movie. At any rate lets hear it for the cheap seats.
