Title: 1976 Rolling Stone Blurb Post by: walktall2010 on May 04, 2011, 10:15:29 am A vintage write-up on John and his first concert from a November 1976 edition of Rolling Stone:
Random Notes David Bowie hasn't spoken to his ex-manager Tony Defries since January but MainMan, Defries' production company, is big spending again — this time on butch-rocker Johnny Cougar. A baby-faced James Dean who sounds something like Bruce Springsteen, Cougar bowed at a heavily produced concert in the 1,500-seat armory of his hometown, Seymour. Ind. The one-night tab, including TV commercials and press parties, came to $50,000—most of it paid out of Bowie royalties. After marching home in glory, Cougar commented on Defries' ability to make him a star: "Anyone who can get headlines for an orange-haired, no-talent limey like David Bowie can do anything." -CHARLES M. Quote "Anyone who can get headlines for an orange-haired, no-talent limey like David Bowie can do anything." Ouch ! LOL! Ouch ! LOL! By the way, John has since said that DeFries manufactured that quote on his behalf and that he never said it himself. That makes sense. John was a big Bowie fan, so why would he rip one of his idols?
