MELLENCAMP.COM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Ask Mellencamp.com / Re: 2/3 Show in Lowell MA

We New Englanders are hearty souls, much like folks from the Heartland! Most recent forecast is for the storm to be over by Thursday morning. Just got off the phone with Lowell Auditorium. They said they never cancel, it will just be an issue of the trucks full of precious instruments and equipment. (Would not want THAT insurance bill) so for those of us driving from Maine, we'll just add some extra time onto the 4 hours. No doubt cranking up the JM all the way there. As for the trucks, quick, someone tell them to leave NOW! Travel safe everyone.

It's definitely trying times for many people. I certainly understand your frustration. I've looked at a lot of the venues and because they're smaller, the very lowest price seats are not as far away from the stage as they would be on other tours. Ticket prices have to cover the cost of so many things, from transporting and insuring equipment, instruments, lighting and the great folks who know how to bring it all together. There's a lot of behind the scenes cost to making it all happen night after night and to have the level of quality and consistency that John always delivers. I may feel differently if I'm ever disappointed in a show, but so far, I've never left unhappy. Ultimately it's just business to the promoters. The smaller more intimate settings of this tour means the cost is higher per ticket, but we get also a very different experience from the big arena shows. Sure, it's Lowell, Massachusetts in the middle of winter, but hey, John always warms things up!.

MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Mellenmoments / Re: Mr Sunshine - JCM reference

I caught that promo last night. Made me smile. The spot your referring to was played by Allison Janney. She had the role of the press secretary on "The West Wing" which ran on NBC from 1999 to 2006. The clip showed her looking up from her desk over her glasses and deadpanning " I see on the schedule that John Cougar Mellencamp is playing here Wednesday night and I'd very much like to make love to him". That was pretty much it, but what could you add to that anyway? !

MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / All About John / John on Letterman

It was worth that second cup of coffee to stay up and see John on Letterman. "Save Some Time to Dream" sounded great. I definitely have a bias, but I think Letterman's audience might have really enjoyed a little less focus on whether John smokes. That just is what it is. I had hoped Letterman would have spent some time on the historic locations where the album was recorded and the unique format it was recorded in. Then there is always all the great reviews of the album and the tour. Did I mentioned I have a bias?

Every time I click on Mellenmoments, I'm smiling, thinking that they are always a surprise to the recipient. An unexpected gift to the receiver of the "moment". You can only be the recipient of this particular gift if you are someone who feels a connection to John's music. It's like I've just been invited to a celebration where someone opens a present that was just perfect.

The interview was great, very relaxed and fun to watch. I can't help but think someone who was flipping through the channels, and caught John's quote might wake up and treat someone different today.
"If you noticed, most of my duets are interracial and it was done for a reason," he said. "It was my way of saying, 'Look at what people could do if they don't judge each other.' We should be able to sing together, dance together, make love with each other, get married to each other, and become you know, human beings." JM

Sharon, this is so fun to watch! What an awesome idea. Reviews and interviews are great, but nothing can convey what it's like to see John live better than the reaction of these fans right after a show. You really captured the moment of the "post show high". When I hear how far some folks have traveled and that they would do it all again in a heart beat, I KNOW they have just experienced a show like no other. The excitement is contagious...February feels too far away!
