31  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / All About John / Re: Are any of the songs from ''Plain Spoken'' getting radio airplay. on: October 23, 2014, 08:45:00 pm
I only hear John's music from back in the day (Jack And Diane, Small-town, Hurts So Good, etc.) on the classic rock station.  It's such a shame because Plain Spoken is it it's entirety, a great record.

I'm glad to hear some of the songs from Plain Spoken are getting airplay elsewhere.

32  NON-JOHN DISCUSSION / Music You Like / Bob Seger releases new album - Ride Out! on: October 15, 2014, 12:32:44 am
Bob Seger is back with a new album called "Ride Out".  Check it out!  I hope you all like it.  You can buy it online wherever music is sold or at your local record store.

I've had a chance to listen to it a few times now and have to say, it's a pretty solid effort.

I couldn't agree more.  Every song on Plain Spoken is a gem.

Very nice review!

The more I listen to Plain Spoken, the more I like it.  The songwriting touches on so many emotions.  Isolation Of Mister, Troubled Man and Blue Charlotte are great examples but so are Tears In Vain and The Brass Ring.  With Plain Spoken, John has put out one truly amazing album.

After reading that, I wish I had ordered the bundle.  I'm sure you'll have many pleasurable hours listening to Plain Spoken and all of John's other albums.

Enjoy!

The gruffness is what gives Plain Spoken that special something.  The words to the songs have more meaning as a result of John's vocal delivery.

It's great to hear how John's writing has changed and evolved throughout his career.  He continues to delve deep within himself to put the words and music out.  It's a treat to hear.  I'm sure John will continue on this journey of self discovery and storytelling about all the aspects of life.

It does seem some reviewers do connect each or almost each song to John's personal life.  Most artists, John included, write about life experiences from stories they're told or have read about.  Sure there could be some personal connection but most of the time it's not a personal connection.

I agree, the second review is excellent!

A John Mellencamp bootleg series?  It's an interesting idea.  I'm sure Republic Records will likely want to pair it with some other rare "in the vault" stuff.  Is john interested in doing this or Republic Records for that matter?  It's doubtful.  I would like to hear it though.

"Most people's first record wasn't very good."  How true is that?  It is quite true.  When a singer/songwriter or band puts out there first album, they're still trying to find their sound and style.  They're not, as John puts it, getting out of their own way.  Well said John.

Yeah, you've got to love that!  To those people who say John doesn't rock anymore, here is the proof he still does.

I hadn't thought about Freedom's Road when I posted the original message but I agree, it's also and excellent album.  It also has some dark elements as the last three albums do.  John is, without a doubt, among today's best singer/songwriters.

That's a very well written review.  Damn, I wish had written it.
