I don't know any of their music except Hurt.  Johnny Cash did a wonderful job on that song.

I have never heard of either of these artists.  Thanks for sharing.

Bono is a terrific singer and U2 certainly has enjoyed an enormous success.  He's a little too political for me.  I'm not big on U2's dance stuff.  I wish they'd get back to rock 'n' roll.  The Joshua Tree and Rattle & Hum are my favorites.

Lady Ga Ga actually does have an excellent voice.  She's one of the most successful artists currently.

275  MELLENCAMP.COM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Ask Mellencamp.com / Re: meeting john on: March 22, 2011, 09:48:49 am
There are times when the meet and greet is arranged by the classic rock stations.  They often do promotions where they do giveaways of backstage passes, etc.

276  NON-JOHN DISCUSSION / Music You Like / Re: Thread 4 the music in your head! on: March 16, 2011, 03:12:54 pm
Here are just a few of the songs I have in my head.

1. John Mellencamp's No Better Than This, Coming Down The Road and Easter Eve
2. Bob Seger's You'll accompany Me, Night Moves and Against The Wind
3. Nazareth's Somebody To Roll, Changin' Times and Razamanaz,
4. Bruce Springsteen's Atlantic City, Down Bound Train and Factory

I've always got some music going in my head and it's always changing.

Ryan is another great singer/songwriting.  I had not heard of him before.  Thanks for sharing.

John's last two albums have been great and I love the musical path he's on.  I also support the idea of John recording another rockin' album like Uh-Huh.

279  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / All About John / In what year did John drop Cougar from his name? on: March 15, 2011, 11:35:28 am
I still hear some radio stations still using Cougar when announcing they're going to play one of John's songs.  They'll use the full "John Cougar Mellencamp" when talking about John's music.  When did John drop Cougar?  From what I remember, it's been years.  Does anyone else notice radio stations doing this?

I'm really looking forward to seeing this at the Vancouver show on April 13th.  Thanks for sharing the link.

282  NON-JOHN DISCUSSION / Music You Like / Re: Bruce Springsteen on: March 10, 2011, 11:55:48 am
I like John because he has made and still makes great music.  I like Springsteen for the same reason.  Both of them love Bob Dylan and Dylan is also in another league.

If Mellencamp sold 15,000.000 album and Bruce only sold a 1,000.000, you'd be singing a different tune.  At least that's the way your sounding.  They're both great artists and deserve the recognition they are receiving.  Why don't people just leave it at that.

As for THE BOSS reference, that was something he was dubbed many years ago.  Elvis was "the King".  Was he really a king?

They don't call Bruce "THE BOSS" for nothing.  It is also a well known fact that Bruce has sold a lot more albums than John. (Born In The USA sold about 15,000.000 copies)  What I like about both of these guys is the fact that they both have a lot of mutual resect for one another.

The comparison is this, I can imagine Bruce doing a version of Pink Houses and John doing a version of Racing In The Streets.  Or Bruce could do Easter Eve and John could do The New Timer. (just to name a couple of tunes that are comparable to some degree)  That's why I say there is a comparison.

I have been to a few Springsteen shows and the man can sure belt it out.  He's got a powerful voice and he definitely can sing.

284  NON-JOHN DISCUSSION / The Melting Pot / Re: Amos Lee (great music) on: March 08, 2011, 12:21:07 pm
The man has a wonderful voice.  John and Amos should do a show together.  That would be one great concert.

285  NON-JOHN DISCUSSION / Music You Like / Bruce Springsteen on: March 08, 2011, 12:12:29 pm
THE BOSS is one of my all time favorites.  His 1982 album Nebraska is the one that got me hooked.  Musically speaking there are some similarities between Springsteen and Mellencamp.

Other favorite artists are Nazareth. (mainly their classic stuff from the 1970s)  Bob Seger, Warren Zevon, Johnny Cash, Rolling Stones, Elvis "The King" Presley and Big Country to name a few.
