16  MELLENCAMP.COM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Ask Mellencamp.com / Re: Statue of Mary on: January 08, 2011, 12:38:32 pm
I didn't mean that JOHN sold them....the guy who responded on HW sells them.  Sorry for the misunderstanding!

"-some days I still don't know what to do-"
Mary in Michigan

LOLOLOL!!!  I wondered!  I was pretty sure you couldn't have meant John was selling them!  OMG, I am still laughing!
17  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / All About John / Re: Where Was JM When John Lennon Was Killed? on: January 02, 2011, 12:06:14 pm
John Lennon was shot and killed in New York City 30 years ago today -- December 8, 1980. Where was John Mellencamp when it happened?

"I was standing in the underground parking lot in the
Chateau Marmont [hotel] in Los Angeles. Some guy that worked for me
ran up and said, 'Hey, John Lennon just got killed.' I couldn't
believe it. Then it was on the news. Everybody went out and ate sushi
and talked about it. We ran into some other musicians at the sushi bar
and talked to them about it. One of them was John Sebastian of the
Lovin' Spoonful."

This is so interesting because when I first read this post I had no idea what the Chateau Marmont was.  Last week, however, I saw a piece on the Chateau Marmont on CBS Sunday Morning!  It's interesting that he was hanging out there!  Quite the place from what I understand...Hollywood elite hot spot!
18  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / All About John / Re: John and Elaine on: January 02, 2011, 11:51:07 am
Referring back to the post that said John was a grumpy old man, first you have to realize that Elaine is much younger than John and maybe she should have thought about that before she married him.  With John just turning 59 and going on tour, I had the pleasure of seeing him in Kansas City and absolutely loved the show, he talked more to the audience like I had never seen him do much before. If you listen to the lyrics in "Clumsy Old World" you can tell that there are problems, and "dont forget about me", is one of my favorites.  So, I suggest you listen to the CD if you dont have it.  As far as his family goes, I think he was talking about his extended family as well, like a brother he mentions in a song that he hasnt seen in 6-7 years.  So before you go calling him a grumpy old man, there are 2 sides to the story.  John is a Libra, they are perfectionists, and if you think thats grumpy, then you need to focus your negative comments about him somewhere else.  No matter what happens, as I do not know John personally, I will always give him my support, hes the only artist I believe in and have for 30 years now.

everyone is entitled to their opinion.  i'm fairly certain that most people who frequent this website have heard the latest cd, as well as all previous ones.  and hindsight is 20/20.   it's not our place to judge john, elaine, or anyone else.

whatever happened between john and elaine is between john and elaine.  as fans, sure we may feel somewhat attached to them, but no one knows what goes on behind closed doors except those who are behind them.

we can choose to respect their decision, honor their privacy, not attack them or each other, and wish the best to all involved.  otherwise, we're no better than the tabloids.

Right-  I think we can all speculate on what we think may have happened.  But none of us will ever know for sure.  We can all listen to the lyrics of the music and hear what we think may be a hint at what is going on in his life, but only John & those closest to him know what in the songs is reality and what is pure creative license.

What I hope is that we do all choose to respect their right to privacy and allow others here to feel comfortable in expressing their feelings & thoughts, being mindful that this is a site for FANS of John & were likely supportive of John & Elaine's marraige.

wonder what lyrics he'll put in when he sings "small town'.........

That was one of the first things I thought of after the surprise wore off!  lol...terrible, right?
20  MELLENCAMP.COM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Ask Mellencamp.com / Re: Statue of Mary on: January 01, 2011, 10:41:15 pm
Isn't this in the documentary?  I'm sure I've heard this somewhere but, it is a bank, but I don't think he sells them!  He has had it the entire tour, and apparently for the Dylan tour as well.  I'm not sure about summer 09.

Susan, I've seen you at a couple of shows since the IU show that night & have wanted to say hi but haven't had a chance!  Your story had me in happy tears at the end...such a wonderful story!  Really, full circle, and amazing!

I hope that your Mellencamp journey continues to go on, and that you continue to have more stories to tell, and that you continue to share them with us!  And next summer when we are up at Indiana Beach, I'm going to bring my kids and husband by your gas station to see your pics and maybe we can chat a while!!!    Smiley

What an awesome review, Dar!  I have been so excited for you to see this show and I am soooo glad that you weren't disappointed except for the same reason we all are... that it had to end!

I'm so happy for you!  So, you gonna save up for a road trip in the spring?  Wink

24  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Fort Wayne, IN / Re: Ft. Wayne In concert on: November 20, 2010, 09:42:41 pm
Becky- it was a fantastic show, wasn't it?!  I was there too...although we had a bit of a problem with the folks behind us and security wanting us to sit down during songs that CLEARLY needed to be danced to!  It was my 4th show this tour, and just as good a performance as the first!  John and his band do not disappoint!!
25  MELLENCAMP DISCUSSION / Tour Talk / Re: Why drop "Thinking About You"? on: November 20, 2010, 08:41:21 pm
I hope he keeps mixing up the setlist, even 2 - 3 songs at a time! Cool

I went to 4 shows and was thrilled to get to hear 3 different songs in that spot!  I loved Thinking About You, but it sure was awesome to hear Human Wheels and What If I Came Knocking!  If I were going to more shows I would certainly enjoy the surprise of hearing a different song in that spot!  I don't think I'd want him changing too much else, tho!!

I imagine calling him an "admirer" is a little bit of a stretch.  lol

30  NON-JOHN DISCUSSION / The Melting Pot / Re: Ainīt that America? on: November 03, 2010, 10:08:20 pm
I think it's primarily a lack of ability of people to compromise, look at the big picture, and come together to work for the greater good.  What I see so often anymore is greed leading the way and blinding those who it is leading.

I also think that many expect overnight miracles, and that can't happen.  People that I see are paranoid, many are without jobs, and income shortages put strains on families.  Our schools are not getting the funding the need to be able to pay teachers and provide academic excellence.

That's just the tip of the iceburg.  There is so much more.

But at the same time, it's amazing there isn't a civil war.  It's like the old adage, I can hit my brother as much as i want, but if you try to take it further than what i approve. then it's on!
