David Grissom sat in with Lucinda Williams at Houston's International Festival last month. There are several songs uploaded on YouTube but this one features David prominently...and this Buffalo Springfield version absolutely kills.

Okay, completely off topic, but had to respond. I sent you a PM "bjmjpl" if this is the same "bjmjpl" that went to the 92Y event a few weeks ago.

First, turned on my favorite NPR station and BAM!, heard the opening notes of "Rooty Toot Toot."

I later went to a friend's house to pick up an order and another customer was there as well. I was invited in, we started chatting with her (the customer) and she was telling us about her daughter's outdoor wedding. I asked the location, she replied Nashville, IN. One thing led to another, turns out she grew up in Belmont, IN and yep, she knows where John's studio is, not to mention she use to go over to that house and play before John bought it and transformed it. I, of course, had to regale her with my John fan/travel stories. A very fun conversation, but it ALWAYS is when John is the topic of said conversation!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the show and truly bummed for you that you didn't get to enjoy it as the listening experience it should be. Welcome to the boards and don't be a stranger!

Gone Mellencampin'. Some of you may still remember him by his Reagan-era nom du rock, John "Snow Leopard" Mellencamp. Steve Jobs sued. Jerk.

It ain't you, #Mellencamp - "No One Cares About Me" is just a tough chorus to coax a hall into singing. But good tune.

"Death Letter." I like my "Pink Houses," too, but this here is the sh*t I came for. Dirty & spooky.

Arcade Fire overexposed? Why? B/c the mere sight of someone under age 90 w/ a fiddle or accordion reminds me of them?

Show's 1st lighting shift brings "Check It Out," a song I'd forgotten for about 15 years that I love.

Ladies squeal when the 60 y.o. onetime Johnny Cougar doffs sportcoat, presumably as a courtesy. [my notes: Um, why yes, I do...ALWAYS when the coat comes off AND shaking his backside to the audience]

I submit to you, O Constant Reader," that #Mellencamp has more death songs than any other 80s hitmaker.

...not that "Don't Need This Body" was from the 80s, or the charts.

Man, #Mellencamp gave up a LOT of his stage patter in his interview w/ Terry Gross a couple years back.

These #Mellencamp rearrs. of the 80s hits are mostly to the tunes' benefit, rescuing 'em from the excesses of the era.

So to compare apples to apples, that Mellencamp gig > Tom Petty show I reviewed in the Paper of Record last year, by a huge margin.

His setlist: Impressive! Rocked the hits, but found much room for deep cuts (Jackie Brown!) & fine, dark recent songs in 130 min. onstage.

@dankois Thanks, Dude. He sang "CB" a cappella... while holding a guitar. He said someone on the street today asked him to play it tonight. [my notes: does he really believe this or have I just been to too many shows and know the schtick?]

Not sure if this is the show, but I saw a tweet from a person looking for photos of her on stage dancing AND singing with JM *i would be mortified if he asked me to sing.* She sent out at least 3 tweet requests when I checked earlier today.

Amazing show. My son and I were lucky enough to be sitting front row center. (Yes, it was us who wouldn't sit down!)

I think my new favourite song is "Right Behind Me". Just a great performance.

The kicker was my son getting handed the drum sticks by one of the roadies just after the show. I'm not sure who's idea the drum sticks were, but please send a big "thank you" to the person that took the initiative. My boy was absolutely ecstatic.

Good report! Very cool to hear the roadies gave him a little souvenir. I wonder if Dane suggested they do that. It's those types of gestures that sometimes can leave a huge impression on a fan.

I've been a fan since 2006. LOVE Amos Lee. I have tickets for his Indy show & Nashville show at the Ryman at the end of March /early April.

No encore?? Dang. I was loving "She's So Tough" from the YT upload from Lowell show. So thankful that song was captured and uploaded!

I was at the Casino Rama show in Canada in July. Someone shouted "encore" and John replied, matter of factly,  " I don't do encores, they're too pretentious."
