Title: AINT EVEN DONE WITH THE NIGHT
Post by: maryjohnson on June 06, 2012, 09:34:45 pm
I know a lot of Mellencamp fans, and we all agree that he should play "Ain't Even Done With The Night" each time he performs. Its a magical song and I am always disappointed that he doesn't play it!

Yes, it is one of his finest.

Who did this first, John or Pat Benetar? Love both versions.

That's "I Need A Lover" that Pat Benatar recorded, not "Ain't Even Done With the Night," and John wrote "I Need A Lover" and recorded it first. As for why he doesn't sing "Ain't Even Done With the Night" live anymore, I think it's primarily because he doesn't like the more juvenile songs he wrote when he was younger, even though the fans still love them. He also doesn't sing "I Need A Lover," "Hurts So Good" and "Hand to Hold Onto" these days for the same reason. However, he did break out "Ain't Even Done With the Night" in 2005 on the Words and Music Tour and it sounded great. That may be the last time we ever hear it in the live setting.

I hate to give you no hope, but he's almost certain to not play "Ain't Even Done With the Night" at this show. It's not on the setlist for this tour and John isn't Springsteen or Dave Matthews -- he doesn't change up his setlists from night to night, except for a slight tweak here or there early in a tour until he feels the show flows well and then it's the same songs every night.
